Saturday, August 21st, 2010

First things first, when you own a small business you support every small business you believe in. It’s like if you have kids that play on the same soccer team, you want the team to win so you cheer for everyone on the team.

With that said, it is a must for you to download this free app on your Smartphone. Whether you live in Vegas or just visiting, this application is the best, easiest to use entertainment directory out there. It features a complete catalog of Las Vegas entertainment venues and a “Live Feed” of all current events that are occurring instantly updated by the venues themselves. Why a ‘Sale’ doesn’t always ‘save’ you

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Are you that person that bolts straight to the sale section of the store? I totally get it. Clothing can be extremely expensive, and every penny saved counts.
Being a personal stylist, part of my job sometimes includes cleaning out or editing people’s wardrobes. On the job, I have seen the down side of ‘sales’ many times – clothes that still have the Sale tags on because they have never been worn.

Here is a typical scenario: You cannot bring yourself to spend $150 dollars on a pair of jeans. So instead you buy 3 pairs of jeans that look ‘okay’ on, and you still are in search of the perfect pair of jeans. Before you know it you have 5 pairs of jeans in your closet that you don’t really love and honestly don’t look that great on. Let’s say each pair of jeans cost $50, times that by 5, so this turns out to cost you $250 dollars. It would of been cheaper for you to just spend the money up front and buy the expensive jeans that look fabulous on you. Who cares that they would be your only pair, your butt looks awesome in them.

I also find that people get obsessed with the label attached to the clothing. Just because an item is designer doesn’t mean it belongs in your wardrobe. I know this one can be hard to swallow. But seriously, having a discounted $500 Burberry dress just sitting in your closet with the tags attached is a complete waste. I understand not being able to afford or justify paying the full price for higher end brands. Through my experience of cleaning out closets, I know that buying ugly, discounted and high-end merchandise would be better spent on something you love and actually wear. Buying clothes on sale is only great when you find what you need and will wear; not just buying because you believe it’s a good sale.

So here is my solution: Before you enter the mall, edit your closet and make a list. ONLY PURCHASE items on your list that you will wear, then don’t look back.

If this approach seems overwhelming, Google a personal stylist for the city you live in. You are not hiring Rachel Zoe, believe me, a stylist is within your reach. A stylist can help you make the purchases that are right for you and can teach you how to start buying clothes for yourself that you will wear.

The moral of this blog post is that next time you’re out and see the sale rack, remember that everything you buy you should love and love to wear, whether it’s on sale or not.

SATC 2 IS HERE

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Despite all the bad reviews, I can’t wait to see Sex In The City 2. Sara Jessica Parker has 41 costume changes.

What I love about Sex In The City is the characters and the clothes. Remember you go to the movies to be entertained. I am anticipating that Pat Field (costume designer for SATC) will not disappoint.

Besides being entertained I hope you leave the theater being fashion inspired. If you liked the the movie, comment about what you liked best.

Nu Sanctuary Lounge/ Town Square Las Vegas

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

I recently read an e-mail regarding the opening of Nu Sanctuary in Las Vegas’ newest mall, Town Square. The advertisements for this place have been up for months, and as a result, my curiosity to try it out was at an all time high. So I jumped on an opportunity to check it out and ate lunch there today. Here are the summary points from my review.

Pro’s:
* Fashion TV was on all the televisions in the restaurant
* Food was exquisite, from presentation to taste!
* Portion sizes were perfect
* A large selection of specialty drinks
* Location, location, location. Great location

Con’s:
* Seating sucked, the chairs sit too low for the table height
* Decor did not match the price point of the restaurant
* The lounge has a good concept, but they hired the wrong designer
* Hostess had an attitude because I entered the side gate instead of the front gate

With that said, this joint has been open for less than a week. My next visit will be for a happy hour in June; hopefully they will have one by then. I would encourage you to give them a try for yourself, but would go for a causal dining experience. If you are starving the place might not cut it. For you gentleman out there, this is where the ladies will be drinking their fu-fu drinks.

Check it out.

I can’t believe Aden is back. This movie is going to be good! I can’t wait!

Crazy For Sharpened Crayons

Friday, March 26th, 2010

If you color with your son, daughter, niece, or nephew you will appreciate this deluxe electric crayon sharpener. I was personally frustrated when coloring with my daughter, because crayons became dull very fast. Coloring with dull crayons is no fun for me, or for that special kid you know that loves to color. After complaining to my husband, he surprised me with a solution. The Elmer’s Pro Electric Crayon Sharpener. This electric sharpener cuts the paper automatically from the crayon as it sharpens. The sharpener features an automatic stop mechanism that prevents over-sharpening. The result is a perfectly sharpened crayon. With that being said I have jammed my crayon sharper over a half a dozen times, and it is a little bit of work to clean it out. Being a personal shopper I am always looking for out of the box gift ideas, and this is one of my favorites for kids, ages 5-12.

New Year Resolution

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

What’s your New Year’s Resolution? If don’t have one yet, but there is still time. I love New Year’s. I feel like you can officially start fresh on basically anything with a resolution. I went to www.43things.com, and found lots of information on goal setting here are some tips from Lia Steakley Dicker.

1) Be deliberate-Resist the urge to impulsively make pledges for the upcoming year based on what’s bothering you at a specific moment. Spend a week, or longer, evaluating your priorities for the new year and think about how your resolution fits with these objectives.
2) Leave the past behind- Refrain from adopting old resolutions to prevent past regrets from following you into the future. Instead, redefine failed goals. If “lose weight” didn’t work last year, consider the new approaches of “eat healthier” or “exercise five days a week”
3) Stay positive-Swearing off bad habits such as “I will never bite my nails again” only emphasizes the forbidden behavior. For better results, cast resolutions in a flattering light and vow to “Take better care of my hands and nails”
4) Shorten the deadline-Recent research found 80 percent of people don’t keep their resolution past Valentine’s Day. Maintain yours until July 1 and you will have accomplished more than most. We’re betting the buzz you get from successfully making reaching the six-month mark will carry you the rest of the year.
5) Define the obstacles-Acknowledging and preparing for the challenges upfront allows you to better navigate bumps in the road ahead.
6) Go public with your plans-Telling others about your goals helps you in a couple of ways. Writing the goals down and sharing them with others can increase your sense of responsibility to meet your objectives. It also gives others insight into what you are trying to accomplish and opens new doors for support.

I always make goals. This year my goal is to be more optimistic. I will be putting a sticky note on my bathroom mirror to remind me to be positive each and every day. There is always room for improvement with oneself. If you can’t think of a New Year’s resolution, try being more fashion forward. Easier said than done, I know. Go to www.imagebylauren.com, and get started in no time at all.
