Filthy Couture by Jenni Farley, aka JWoWW of MTVs ‘Jersey Shore’

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

If you haven’t seen the show Jersey Shore I am sure you have heard of it. One of the characters, Jenni Farley ( Jwoww) has starting a clothing brand called Filthy Couture. I had the privilege of sitting front row at her runway show to see up close what the line had to offer. Jenni served up lots of lace dress and rhinestones. My favorite pieces from the collection were the lingerie-inspired swimsuits, which retail for less than $130.00.

After meeting Jenni, I was curious to know more about the show and why it received so much press. So I downloaded the first show of last season. Jersey Shore is basically like the Real World times ten. All I can say is that reality TV has changed quite a bite over the last 15 years. Jenni is a big sweetheart; she tells me that season 2 has twice the drama of season 1 and that there are no talks yet of a season 3. Jwoww also clarified that females DO NOT fist pump, it is purely a guy thing.

Wearable 4th of July Fashion

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Don’t be that person who buys a 4th of July t-shirt this holiday. It’s okay to buy one for a young child, but not for yourself. Why you ask? The whole point of creating a wardrobe is so that you will wear everything you own more than a few times. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be festive. Dive into your closet and pull out something red, white, or navy to wear. Keep in mind, wherever you plan to spend your holiday, enjoy the company you keep. How lucky are you to be celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States? I definitely feel that we are blessed to live in this wonderful country.

Boyfriend Denim Shorts

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I was on the hunt for the perfect pair of relaxed denim boyfriend shorts for days. Then finally I tried on a pair of Joe’s jean shorts in the BLANCHET WASH and found exactly what I was looking for. Isn’t it a great feeling when you try something on in the fitting room and it actually looks good?

I paid a $150 dollars for my new shorts and was thankful I had found the perfect pair. While shopping with a client at Kohl’s (one of my favorite places for budget shopping) I found boyfriend shorts by LC Lauren Conrad. Needless to say I made my client buy them and went back to Kohl’s to try them on for myself. I ended up buying them for $27.99, and I will say my Joe’s Jeans make my butt took better but I love having backups.

How Not To Become A Victim Of High Waters

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Every time I find myself in a professional group setting, I notice that there is a hand-full of people wearing high water pants (aka High Waters). Today, I am covering the basics of pant lengths in the hopes that someone who needs my advice will take it.

Let’s start with the basics. A break is key to avoiding High Waters. The break is based on where your pants fall on your shoes. It is simply a result of the length of your pants. A good break should create a horizontal crease in the fabric across the front of your pant leg and gather a bit. For example, if the break comes too high or is not defined enough, your pants will look too short when you stand or walk.

When hemming pants, my preference is to pin my client’s hem at the bottom of the soles of their shoes. The hem is about be a quarter of an inch from touching the ground. In my opinion, when you walk you should not be able to see your socks.

The Right Length

The Wrong Length (AKA: fashion no-no)

There is always exception’s to the rule. If you are a hipster at heart, you can definitely rock the ankle length pants. Here are some pictures to give you an example of what I mean.

5 key pieces to add to your Spring/Summer Wardrobe

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

1.) Denim shirt or Denim Jacket- Because denim goes with everything. Even though the runways have models in denim from head to toe doesn’t mean you have to wear it that way. I suggest that you don’t, because not everyone can pull this look off. Pair your denim with floral print skirts, safari shorts, lace tunics, linen pants, and whatever else you desire besides your denim jeans.

D & G - $395.00

Gap-$59.50

Sack 5th Ave/ Citizens of Humanity $216.00

Lucky Brand denim jacket/ $98.00

Levi's $69.50

2.) Floral/ Tied Dyed/ Tribal Print – whether it be a new scarf, skirt, or new dress, work in one of these patterned prints. The smaller the print is, the better. It will also go great with your new denim jacket. My personal favorite is a graphic tee worn tucked into a floral skirt.

Franco Ferrari Floral Linen Scarf $160

Martin+Osa Silk Scarf $69.50

Pair your white pants with any shade of blue, grey, or light pastel color. White can really be worn with anything. For shoes stick with metallic shades.

Whitney Eve’s Summer Collection is finally Here!

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

I will admit I like watching The City on MTV. It is a fashion based reality TV show, with either scripted drama, and/or great editing. The show was created around an MTV character (on The Hills) named Whitney Port. Since staring on the show Whitney Port has created a clothing line called Whitney Eve. The show basically tells the story on how Whitney created the line and how she brought it to life. When I saw the look book for the line, I was so excited because I had already seen it on TV. I picked my favorite pieces out and purchased them for my store – http://laurenspicks.com. I have also ordered from her summer and fall 2010 line. She has designed some wonderful pieces that are on trend but also have a vintage appeal to them. Here is the trailer of what the season will bring. Hopefully her runway show will air soon. It is always fun knowing you can purchase the piece of clothing you just saw on TV.
