Sheer Fashion

It’s still winter and cold outside, and spring and summer can’t come soon enough. If you want to get one step ahead of the trend factor focus on see through and sheer fabrics. On the runways last season models were wearing bra’s over their clothing or under completely sheer shirts. The runway tends to be extreme and over dramatic, but whether you like it or not runways set the tends for the fashion industry.

I have been telling all my clients the sheer factor is coming and have chosen these sheer tanks and shirts by Alternative Apparel to personally rock this trend.

Mad as a Hatter

One of the most anticipated movies of this year is Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Now if you are expecting to see a version of the original movie, guess again. One of the screen writers, Linda Woolverton took more influence from Lewis Carrol’s the Jabberwocky poem than original Alice an wonderland story Carrol wrote. I personally can not wait to see this movie, mostly because the makeup looks magnificent. I can only image how many hundreds of hours went into the makeup and wardrobe alone for this movie. From a fashion standpoint you should be seeing the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed clothing everywhere. I have seen tons of sweet playful summer dresses perfect for an adult tea party and jewelry with cups, saucers, and pink pastries. I am the biggest fan of Tarina Tarantino’s ‘Alice in wonderland’ jewelry: it is fun, a great pop of color, and most importantly will still be stylish in three years. This is my favorite pieces from her “Alice Flamingo” line.

Project, Pool, WSA, Curve, and Magic

I have been very busy in Las Vegas walking the numerous convention centers, attending Project, Pool, WSA, Curve, and Magic. These are all clothing and shoe conventions that I spent time at last week. Fashion trade shows typically preview product about 6 to 9 months ahead of when merchandise is available in the retail setting. Spring 2010 isn’t even here, yet I am already taking notes and am up to speed on forecasting for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. These shows are a great way for me to share with you what is coming in the world of Fashion, as well as for me to purchase product for Laurenspicks.com.
Some of the trends on the horizon include:
Lace, Lace, and more Lace- when I saw the Dior show my mouth dropped, needless to say I am loving all the lace and the sexiness that comes with it. For Fall 2010, transition your lace pieces to be combined with vintage inspired pearls, and velvet. Lace will even be seen on shoes and boots.

Christian Dior, Spring 2010

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2010

Military/ Army inspired anything – olive green, khaki, and even cameo print will appear on the scene for Fall of 2010 and even carry into Spring 2011. Think Indian Jones inspired. Personally, I am loving combat boots and think they will look cute with lace tights.
Marc Jacobs Spring 2010

Ethic/ Tribal Prints- print with a very rich color pallet. Think gold, red, brunt orange, greens, jade, and browns with a bright pop of color. Tribal prints for forecasted to be big in Spring 2011. To work this trend I would pick up a scarf, or great patterned skirt.
DVF Spring 2010

If you still have your cowboy boots, the Western Front will be back in a big way for Spring 2011. Think pink, browns, soft neutrals, navy, and periwinkle blues. The preppy school boy is also an up and coming trend. Think classic cardigans, tailored jackets, full skirts, and short socks. I teach my clients to actual wear all or most of their clothes, and to buy pieces that will be in their closet for more than a year. With that said I am seeing olive green everywhere for Fall 2010.

Matte Nail Polish

I attended the International Salon and Spa Expo last weekend in Long Beach, CA. Being a wardrobe stylist you want to be on the cutting edge of everything fashion, and I believe hair and makeup is involved in that process. At the end of the day how do you take the runway trends and pull them into your real life? As a stylist, this is my area of expertise. Customers want to purchase items that will be valid next year, and look their best. At the show I found new vendor’s to try, and if I love their product, I will be able to offer it to you at www.laurenspicks.com. Every product on Laurenspicks.com is either tested or hand picked by me and my loved ones.

In talking about trends, one that I hadn’t tried was the matte nail polish. I usually stick to a french manicure, or a nude colored nail polish. At the ISSE show every nail polish company was there with their whole line of products. When I stopped at the OPI booth and found their matte nail polish, I thought I should try it. So here is the round up. To get the matte affect you are not going to use a base or top coat. My manicurist tried both a base and top coat, and it does not work on this matte formula. I think this product is awesome if you paint your own nails. This nail polish dries very quickly, and since you can’t use base or top coat, it’s fool proof. Do not expect your nail polish to last more than a few days, the OPI matte polish that I used lasted four days.

*Buy him something super sexy for yourself- that you will actually wear and feel sexy in. Just the fact that you will be dressing up for him will be a treat

* If he is into music purchase SADE’s new album “Soldiers of Love” released February 9th 2010

Valentines Gifts for Her

Valentines Gifts for Her
Women eat this holiday up, and if you are in a new relationship, the pressure is on. Women are always comparing stories and bragging if they have something to brag about. If you put some time and energy into this day you won’t regret it. Depending on your budget, here are great valentine gift ideas for that special someone.
* A Card- something so simple, can make such a big difference.

*Make Dinner Plans / either at “your” favorite spot, or a restaurant she has always wanted to go to. If you don’t want to leave the house try hiring a private chef for homemade special dinner. In Las Vegas I refer Chef Pete Ghinoe 702.885.7897

* If she is into music purchase SADE’s new album “Soldiers of Love” released February 9th 2010

* Something Sweet- Not all women like chocolates, but everyone has their favorite something sweet, or salty. You can make your special someone feel really special by taking a second to remember the little things that they like. If you lady is always nagging about her weight get her something that smells sweet like Philosophy Bath & Shower Gels. These delicious smelling 3-in-1 shampoo, body wash, and bubble bath come in lots of different scents
prodsm_00561512prodsm_00561585prodsm_00562030prodsm_00562020 www.sephora.com

* Jewelry- Every girl likes some type of jewelry. Make her day with a special piece you know she would like. This piece does not have to come from a jewelry store it can come from her favorite clothing store instead. Diamond studs are lovely I have to admit , but if your budget doesn’t meet that $10,000 dollar price tag and getting fake diamonds is not an option, you can still get her a pair of fun earrings that you know she might like.yhst-30921770275825_2088_1091533yhst-30921770275825_2089_465545yhst-30921770275825_2089_2603544 Find these at www.laurenspicks.com

* Sexy Shoes- Sounds odd right? If your girl loves shoes, which most do, buy her a sexy pair and tell her to wear them to bed. She will be so happy you bought her shoes, and than you will be happy to only she her in them. This doesn’t just work with any type of high heels you need to buy something she wouldn’t normally buy for herself like…..think designer brands
NMX0A9N_mtChristian Louboutin (every girl wants to wear red soles)

* Something Sexy- If you think she will wear it for you, buy it and have it gift wrapped. Set your lady up for success. If you know she is the conservative type buy her something modest, if she is the wild type head straight for the adult store

Rain, Rain Go Away

I lived in Seattle for 4 years and paid my dues with the rain. Vegas is not suppose to rain cats and dogs, but here we are… Personally, my wardrobe is no longer up to par for this type of weather. My daughter wore her rain boots today and was stepping in the puddles, splashing water as we walked and loving every minute of it. She was having so much fun, it made me want my own rain boots. I’ve decided that investing in a pair again doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. Here are some of my favorites
994226-p-DETAILED See By Chloe’ $199.00

Golden Globes 2010 Fashion Favorites

54m Maggie Gyllenhaal, in RM by Roland Mouret looked breathtaking. You can tell her look was very planned out

82mZoe Saldana, in Louis Vuitton. I loved this color dress against Zoe’s skin.

23m Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabbana looked beyond glamours. I would love the see this dress in person

07m Anna Paquin in Stella McCartney rocks this dress better than anyone else I could image. Her light makeup, black nail polish, and loosely pulled black hair was just laid back enough for her extremely flashy dress

61m Who doesn’t love Meryl Streep? Besides her belt this 60 year old woman rocked a black modern dress and red lips that truly worked for me

Steel Cut Oatmeal

If you are really into working out, your trainer already has you eating a good breakfast. If you do not take the time to make breakfast for yourself, you should start. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It kick starts your metabolism, and increases your energy and stamina. Eating something in the morning is essential to a healthy diet, so don’t pass up the chance to be good to yourself. One of my breakfast favorites is steel cut oats, with agave nectar. Steel Cut Oats have a more grainer texture than any other type of oatmeal, and it works to help keep you satisfied until your next meal. Steel cut oats can be found at most natural health food stores such as Trader Joe’s, Wild Oats, Sunflower Market, and Whole Foods. I buy my steel cut oats in the bins at Whole Foods. I prepare a big batch in the morning and stick it in a tupperware, then eat from it over the next couple days. If you can not function in the morning try making it at night, then warm it in the microwave. Be good to your body, eat a healthy breakfast.
