Body America Has Arrived

I have tons of new products arriving at http://www.laurenspicks.com, and Body America is one of them. What makes the Body America line so great besides the cute retro pin-up girl packaging?

Cool Stuff at Cosmoprof North America 2010

Here are new products that I discovered at Cosmoprof, here in Las Vegas.

For those you who love eyelash extensions, and tinting your eyelashes, there is now Cry Baby. Cry Baby is a semi-permanent mascara that will add volume, length, curl and color to your lashes. Cry Baby is waterproof, and lasts up to two weeks. This product is new to me, and technicians need to be trained on how to apply this product. I currently don’t know of any salons that are offering Cry Baby.

Ever have dry cracked feet? Well Baby Foot has an at home solution. You put on a slipper that has medication contained in it, wear for two hours and than wash off.

The booth was not giving out examples, so I have not tried this product. When I saw the dramatic pictures of peeling feet, I said ugggh out loud. The sales rep assured me that is was not a painful process.

Next product is Skincerity.

Skincerity is a nightly breathable barrier and is the world’s only patented breathable masque that dramatically improves your skin without changing your regimen. Before you go to bed you roll the product over your face and it seals a light barrier on your skin. The theory is that the barrier locks in whatever face product you are using (think eye creme, acne medication, etc.) and the natural moisture contained in your skin. Here is what the company states as benefits:

*Tones and tightens your skin
*Reduces the appearance of skins fine lines and wrinkles
*Reduces the appearance of enlarged pores and also facial redness
*Cleans and exfoliates the skin
*Smoothes and brightens dull facial complexions
*It hydrates and nourishes dry damaged skin

This product retails for $95 dollars and can be purchased threw salons, dermatologist, and individual sales reps. I was able to get a sample of this product, and used it for the first time last night. I will use it for 4 weeks to see if it actually works. If I like it I will do another posting about it. Emani Minerals is a green organic cosmetics line. This makeup line is vegan, gluten friendly, talc free, cruelty free, committed to use 100% recycled paper goods (25% post & 75% pre-consumer), and is committed to make all paper goods 100% biodegradable.

What I was most interested in was all the different types of foundations this product line offered.
DR. Gram skin care line is simple and straight forward. This product line is organic and eco-friendly, and the price point is affordable. Personally I am a sucker for eye-cremes and DR. Gram serves up a good one. I have used it for the past two days and once my samples run out I will be purchasing this product.

Boho/Ethnic Bags are Everywhere

I do more page turning than I do actual reading. This past week I have turned the pages of a dozen magazines sporting the new ‘it’ trend: super ethnic, boho purses. They come in all shapes and sizes, and price points for that matter. Bright pops of color, with extreme texture; this is an accessory to add some life into your summer wardrobe. In the fall, you will see this type of bag in every store.

Filthy Couture by Jenni Farley, aka JWoWW of MTVs ‘Jersey Shore’

If you haven’t seen the show Jersey Shore I am sure you have heard of it. One of the characters, Jenni Farley ( Jwoww) has starting a clothing brand called Filthy Couture. I had the privilege of sitting front row at her runway show to see up close what the line had to offer. Jenni served up lots of lace dress and rhinestones. My favorite pieces from the collection were the lingerie-inspired swimsuits, which retail for less than $130.00.

After meeting Jenni, I was curious to know more about the show and why it received so much press. So I downloaded the first show of last season. Jersey Shore is basically like the Real World times ten. All I can say is that reality TV has changed quite a bite over the last 15 years. Jenni is a big sweetheart; she tells me that season 2 has twice the drama of season 1 and that there are no talks yet of a season 3. Jwoww also clarified that females DO NOT fist pump, it is purely a guy thing.

Wearable 4th of July Fashion

Don’t be that person who buys a 4th of July t-shirt this holiday. It’s okay to buy one for a young child, but not for yourself. Why you ask? The whole point of creating a wardrobe is so that you will wear everything you own more than a few times. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be festive. Dive into your closet and pull out something red, white, or navy to wear. Keep in mind, wherever you plan to spend your holiday, enjoy the company you keep. How lucky are you to be celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States? I definitely feel that we are blessed to live in this wonderful country.

Want to know the difference between UVA & UVB rays?

I hate to be a drag, but we all know too much sun can cause wrinkles and potential damage to our skin. If you’ve shopped around for protection against the sun, you know the choices can be overwhelming. There is sunscreen, sunblock, tanning oil, SPF 15 to 50 and beyond. So to help you out, here are the basics that you need to know….

* UVA rays break down collagen and elastin fibers supporting skin; these rays cause long-term skin damage (a.k.a. wrinkles).

* UVB rays causes your skin to burn or tan.

* SPF (sun protection factor) protects from UVB’s rays, which really translates to how long a person can stay in the sun with out burning. An SPF of 15 means you can stay outside fifth teen times longer that if you went out with nothing on without causing sun damage to your skin.

* Sunblocks are physical barriers, like a hat or a visor.

* Sunscreens are chemical UVA shields that can be applied to your skin.

* Even if you put on tons of sunscreen on, you can still get color.

* Whatever sunscreen/sunblock you chose to purchase make sure it protects against UVA/UVB rays.

I also find myself liking the spray-on sunscreens; they are much easier for me to put on myself and my daughter; they are also easier to reapply. The only problem I have having with sunscreen is that it sticks to my nail polish. When figure that one out, I will let you know.

Solerra/ Tanee Tan Line Corrector

Do you have tan lines this summer? I can tell you that I do. Fortunately, I’ve found a quick and affordable solution to help camouflage dramatic, contrasting lines. The Solerra Tanee Tan Line Corrector is a unique self tanning product that instantly hides tan lines.

I will say that the self tanner did not match my skin perfectly, but over all the product worked and was easy to use. You can build the color up by reapplying every four hours. The picture below are my results after two applications.

Body Glow

One of my favorite products to help glam up my outfit in the summer is body oil that is combined with gold shimmer. Not over bearing shimmer, but just enough to have someone doing a double take at my gam’s. My product of choice is Body Glow by Nars.

Boyfriend Denim Shorts

I was on the hunt for the perfect pair of relaxed denim boyfriend shorts for days. Then finally I tried on a pair of Joe’s jean shorts in the BLANCHET WASH and found exactly what I was looking for. Isn’t it a great feeling when you try something on in the fitting room and it actually looks good?

I paid a $150 dollars for my new shorts and was thankful I had found the perfect pair. While shopping with a client at Kohl’s (one of my favorite places for budget shopping) I found boyfriend shorts by LC Lauren Conrad. Needless to say I made my client buy them and went back to Kohl’s to try them on for myself. I ended up buying them for $27.99, and I will say my Joe’s Jeans make my butt took better but I love having backups.

Rachel Zoe is back August 3rd

Bravo’s The Rachel Zoe Project returns for a third season, which premieres August 3rd. If you can not get enough of Rachel Zoe she is showing her second fall collection for QVC. While some scarves and jewelry will be available this month, the rest of the collection will go on sale in September. Rachel hopes to expand to ready-to-wear and shoes in coming seasons.
